CLEVELAND - The Cleveland Metropolitan School District in collaboration with the Cleveland Teachers Union will host CMSD Rally for Excellence this weekend. The Race to the Top event is a celebration of all the great things that are happening in Cleveland schools.
At the rally, parents and students can learn more about the district’s single gender academies, early college programs, engineering and medicine curriculums and so much more. CMSD has choices for Cleveland’s children. Parents will have the opportunity to enroll their child in a school on the spot!
In addition to individual school displays, partners of CMSD will also be on hand to showcase their involvement with CMSD schools and programs.
Among the anticipated highlights of this event, New York Times bestselling author and OWN (The Oprah Winfrey Network) TV Talk Show host Wes Moore, who will serve as keynote speaker and moderator for an engaging student conversation. This portion of the event is part of a national series presented by Facing History and Ourselves and The Allstate Foundation. Community Conversations bring prominent authors, scholars, filmmakers, and policy leaders together with audiences across the nation to discuss topics of civic participation, individual and collective responsibility and diversity.
The Verizon Wireless Sponsored Choice Bus National Tour will be on site. The Choice Bus, which is half-prison cell and half-classroom, is a mobile experience dedicated to reducing the dropout rate.
