Thursday, October 18; Friday, October 19; and Saturday, October 20, at 8 p.m.:

Pinchas Steinberg conducts The Cleveland Orchestra in Severance Hall concerts featuring music by three Russian masters.  The main work on the program is Sergei Prokofiev’s symphonic cantata drawn from his score for the 1938 film Alexander Nevsky.  Mezzo-soprano Sasha Cooke makes her Cleveland Orchestra debut as soloist in the cantata.  Also performing with the Orchestra in Alexander Nevsky is the Cleveland Orchestra Chorus, prepared by Cleveland Orchestra Director of Choruses Robert Porco and Assistant Director of Choruses

Lisa Wong.  The concerts open with Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov’s Suite from Le Coq d’or (“The Golden Cockerel”), followed by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s Francesca da Rimini.

 

FREE CONCERT PREVIEWS

Beginning one hour prior to these concerts, a Concert Preview titled “Russian Passions” will be given in the Concert Hall by Jason Harris, assistant professor of choral conducting at Oberlin College Conservatory.  The series is funded by a generous endowment gift from Dorothy Humel Hovorka.

The Severance Hall Ticket Office is located in the Smith Lobby.  The entrance and 15-minute Ticket Service parking are along East Boulevard.  The Ticket Office is open 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m., Monday-Friday and on Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.  It is closed Sundays and holidays, except for those days with performances, when the Ticket Office opens 3 hours before concert start time.
