Nineties rap star Heavy D dead at 44

heavy_d__webOne of hip-hop’s icons, 44-year-old Dwight “Heavy D” Arrington Myers, was pronounced dead this afternoon at an  L.A. hospital.

One of hip-hop’s icons, 44-year-old Dwight “Heavy D” Arrington Myers, was pronounced dead this afternoon at an L.A. hospital.

A 911 call was made from the veteran rapper’s home around 11:25 PST. When help arrived, Heavy D was reportedly conscious and speaking. He was taken to a nearby hospital around noon only to be pronounced dead around 1 p.m.

Fresh off a BET performance, the artist appeared to be in good health and spirits. The investigation into his death is underway but as of now there are no signs of foul play.
