Now, along with cell phones, social media is the happening thing for both young and old. Grandparents are getting on to see and talk to grandchildren. Young people are getting on to play games and show off their pictures. Technology has come a long way!
The ever-changing world of technology
The business world is ever-revolving around new innovative technology which has made our daily lives more techno friendly. And, Apple’s Steve Jobs, one of the world’s greatest minds, has most of us using one of his products.
Take the telephone, invented in the early 1870’s, for example. It comes in all types. ACN is even selling the video phone, which we thought was something only seen in the movies.
Remember a few years ago when the Blackberry phone was the top notch device, made for the typical business person. It was nice to be able to get your emails and messages on the go while being away from the office.
I laugh at the commercial when the plane is going to be delayed and everyone reaches for their cell phone then the question is asked, ‘what did we do before cell phones?’ Well, I remember stopping at many pay phones. I think they have stopped making them because so many cell phones are in use.
Growing up, I remember my fingers getting caught in the old dial-up phone that came in black or white. By the time I reached 14, I wanted the trim-line phone that came in many colors. I remember begging my mother to let me get my own personal phone and number.
That same phone caused me to get in a lot of trouble, staying on it until late night, trying to be slick, hiding under the covers to talk to my friends.
Ohio Bell seemed to be a busy company to me when I was younger, especially when I would be downtown and knew the headquarters was there onHuron Rd.
Ohio Bell became Ameritech, then SBC and now the almighty AT&T.
In 2008, when the iPhone was released, people lined up overnight to be the first to get one and now, with the latest 4s model, the iPhone is one of the most popular phones at present time.
With apps that cover almost anything you can think about, this phone is changing the way everyone does business. Selling six million in a short period of time, many fell in love with the idea of having a touch screen.
I have an iPhone and I still have to ask my co-worker Becky, the iPhone guru, for help. Come to think of it, many of us with iPhones and iPads all go to Becky (laughing). Thanks for your lessons.
In October of 2011, when Apple released the new 4s iPhone, the design was slightly different but they marketed the new voice command. They felt if you talked to Siri it was just like talking to someone.
Siri became the latest greatest invention for them because Siri could make phone calls and even schedule meetings. Now, while watching the news this week, I see they have even invented an app to let women know about their biological clock.
Can you see us in about 10 years, doing everything from our phones? Everything in technology changes so fast. They’ve got so many apps and you can believe more are coming that will help us do everything.
Others liked the new 4s for the new iSight camera with great optics. With 8 megapixel resolution, it seems to be a great hit since most use their phone as their camera. You can learn more about the 4s if you visit your phone store.
As kids, your parents always asked what do you want to be when you grow up?
I am sure there are some young people tinkering around in their basements, coming up with something that will make them the next Steve Jobs or Garrett Morgan.
Morgan is mostly known for inventing the street light but, in 1916, he helped to start the Cleveland Call that later became the Call & Post Newspaper after a merger in 1928.
If you ever thought about being your own boss and have dreams of owning your own business, why not go for it? With all the opportunities available these days, you too can become an entrepreneur.
The young people have to think business and not just sports. So many think the only way to make big money or get the bling is by playing sports. More doctors, lawyers, engineers, new cell phone inventors, and yes even more Black newspaper owners are needed.
If you have paid attention, there’s money in the phone business. We have all graduated from wanting a beeper on our hip to purchasing some type of cell phone. No matter the style or brand, you have to pay a bill.
It is clear that some youth have making money on their mind versus carrying a gun or selling drugs. Youth are always on the cutting edge of technology and making it happen in this day and age.
Like I said earlier, this technology age is always evolving. I remember my father having a telephone in his Cadillac back in the day through Cleveland Mobile. This big phone sat there like a house phone. You had to dial the operator to be connected. Not many people I knew had those expensive investments.
Mark Zuckerberg, one of the founders of Facebook, is just as smart as Steve Jobs, who launched Apple and, in 2008, his iTunes became the second largest music retailer in America.
Now, along with cell phones, social media is the happening thing for both young and old. Grandparents are getting on to see and talk to grandchildren. Young people are getting on to play games and show off their pictures. Technology has come a long way!
