‘Tis the season to be giving…

And, with so many families in need this holiday season, the staff at The Call and Post Newspaper has decided to adopt a family for Christmas.

With the assistance of University Settlement, we will be working like Santa’s elves to help a grandmother - caring for six grandchildren – bring some Christmas cheer into their home. The children range in ages from 18 years to 5 months old.

The family that the Call and Post has adopted is a part of University Settlement’s Family to Family Program, where the goal is to help keep children – at risk for entering the Children and Family Services system – with relatives. At the same time, this can present financial challenges for the caregiver.

“The holidays, especially, are really important,” said Samantha Cocco, development coordinator at University Settlement. “They can get hard for families with children. Money is tight all year and, with the children out of school for two weeks, it can get tighter. Most families are in dire need. So we try to help them in different ways.”

That’s where the Call and Post steps in.

“During this season of giving, we want to be among those who are reaching out to the less fortunate,” said Connie Harper, associate publisher and editor in chief, Call and Post Newspapers. “We invite others to join us so this family can have a merry and happy Christmas.”

And, with your help, we’re hoping to provide this family with the best holiday ever.

From now until December 17, 2012, with the exception of this Saturday and Sunday, you can donate new/unused gifts for this family at 11800 Shaker Blvd., Cleveland, Ohio. Suggested items include Walmart gift cards, toys and dolls for the 8 and 4-year-old females; educational toys for a 5-month-old; toiletries, body products, watches, or jewelry for the 18 and 13-year-old males as well as an 11-year-old female. The children can also use winter clothes and outerwear. The children’s sizes are:
