CLEVELAND, OH, Feb. 15, 2011 — Community NETwork Northeast Ohio announced today that they will host students from the Urban League of Greater Cleveland, and Project Grad Akron for an event for Black Family Technology Awareness Week (BFTAW), on Tuesday, February 15th at 10am, at The Great Lakes Science Center. The purpose of BFTAW is to expose African-American students to areas of technology that they would not normally have access to.

Community NETwork is the African-American employee resource group within AT&T.  More than 40 students are expected to attend part of the program day, which will include a demonstration from the AT&T Mobility team and access to some of our high-ranking leaders in management.  The day will also include a full tour of the Great Lakes Science Center, with specific focus on the NASA Glenn and facing Mars Exhibits. Students will also view “Hubble” at the Science Center’s IMAX Theater.

“Black Family Technology Awareness Week is a time during Black History Month that we will focus on eliminating the Digital Divide and showing families how they can improve their lives with effective use of technology,” said Lucinda Gunn, President of Community NETwork Northeast Ohio. “This is an important objective for the minority community in Northeast Ohio.”

Community NETwork participates in the Black Family Technology Awareness Week to provide a program of technology exposure that Community NETwork chapters nationwide can adopt and adapt for their local markets in coordination with a national agenda. The program will take place annually during Black Family Technology Awareness Week which is held during the second full week in February.

“The Urban League of Greater Cleveland is excited to participate in this Black Family Technology Awareness Week with Community NETwork and Project Grad Akron,” said Marsha Mockabee, President and CEO of the Urban League of Greater Cleveland. “We believe in strong community partnerships to help expose African American students to technology.”
