COLUMBUS — The YWCA of Columbus has named Columbus Board of Education president, Carol L. Perkins as one six Women of Achievement honorees. The honor recognizes Perkins for her professional achievements and generosity to the community.

Columbus City Schools Superintendent, Gene T. Harris, Ph.D., nominated Perkins for the prestigious honor saying, “Carol is truly deserving of this award. During the past four years, I have witnessed Carol’s tenacity for developing and maintaining the vital partnerships between home, school, and district staff needed to ensure students are receiving the educational rigor needed for college and the workforce.”

“Words cannot express how honored I am at receiving this award,” said Perkins, Columbus Board of Education President. “I learned at a very young age the importance of giving back to your community and being of service to others. I am privileged to serve the parents, students and my community”.

Perkins has been a member of the Columbus Board of Education since 2007 and has served as board president for the last three years, ensuring students in Columbus City Schools have every opportunity for a quality education. Perkins has worked for the Central Ohio Transit Authority (COTA) for 28 years, currently as Director of Mobility Services (Operations). Perkins also works closely with various human service agencies such as the YWCA, the Columbus Urban League, and area churches to provide employment opportunities for women, enhancing their job training skills, resume writing and interviewing skills.

Greene, Volunteer Coordinator, St. Stephen’s Community House, Gail Marsh, Senior Associate Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer, The Ohio State University Medical Center, Susan D.
