Bishop Speaks Week of 6-6-2012

new bishop speaks headerI'll see each of you this Sunday 11 a.m. sharp to continue part II of my message on lying.

Don't lie, just trust God!

Ooowee!

This past Sunday I opened up my sermon using this example and I'm still wondering why everyone started laughing? Surely church people don't lie!

A minister told his congregation, "Next week I plan on preaching about the sin of lying. To help you understand my sermon, I want you all to read Mark 17."

The following Sunday, as he prepares to deliver his sermon, the minister asked for a show of hands. He wanted to know how many had read Mark 17. Every hand went up. The minister smiled and said, "Mark has only sixteen chapters. I will now proceed with my sermon on the sin of lying."

I preached, I taught, maybe I lectured and as I look back on this past Sunday preaching the WORD of GOD.  I'm wondering why the people of God hearing my message were not only saying, "Amen," but were laughing well throughout most of my sermon. This Sunday will be Part II of my message, so if you know some individuals who lie and need to hear this message, I invite you to bring them. Don't tell them why because they will say, "I need to hear that message," but in reality they will not come and they will lie and tell you they are coming.

I know I was making my Part I Message, "Cut throat clear.” I know I was "Intense with common sense," using the WORD of GOD as my foundation.

Let me ask each of you my readers a few questions. Why do people lie? Some individuals won't let go of that lie even when caught in the middle of the act of lying. The mother asked her five-year-old son why was he getting cookies out of the cookie jar without asking her? He quickly responded, "I'm not getting no cookies." The mother told his father, "We need to take him to see a counselor." I’m here to tell you my mother would have been the best counselor for him, as she would have gone upside his head just for lying (Pray for me).

Some individuals lie so much that they even believe their lies. They have convinced themselves they are telling the truth. What's that old saying? “Practice makes perfect!” Many individuals have become perfect at telling lies.

The world’s greatest detective Sherlock Holmes stated, "Human beings lie to gain something, protect something, or cover up something."

What does the bible say about lying and did any men or women of the Bible ever lie?

Proverbs 6:16-17 states, “There are seven things that the Lord hates and cannot tolerate with the second one being, ‘A lying tongue.’"

This past Sunday for Part I of my series entitled, "Don't lie, just trust God," I talked about a man of God named Abram. Go get your bible and turn to Genesis 12:10-20. Let me break it down to you and tell you a little bit about him lying.

God told Abram to go on a journey one way, but things got hard and he flipped the script. He changed the plans of God heading intoEgypt. What did my members learn from the message for starters? Either you're in the “Will of God” or the “Way of God.” Because Abram changed God's plan, he got in the way of God. He wanted to do things his way. Anyone know individuals like this? Remember Cain in Genesis? His brother Able gave God the best he had to offer, while Cain just gave God anything. Instead of Cain doing it God's way he instead killed his brother, doing it his way. What a price Cain had to pay! Only thing he had to do was to get it right. The only thing Abram had to do was TRUST GOD and stay on the journey God set before him... but!

Abram's wife was beautiful and he told her what he'd heard. "Honey, the word is when we get intoEgyptand they see how beautiful you are, they will assume I'm your husband and kill me. The King of Egypt love beautiful women." As his wife Sarai looked at him, he continued. "So tell them when they ask you that you're my sister; then because of you they will let me live and treat me well."

Ooowee! What did my flock learn from Abram telling his wife to lie for HIM. First they learned people will use you to look out for themselves and it might be your own family member. Abram didn’t care for his wife; he was looking out for himself. Next, had he just stayed on the journey God set out for him, he would not have had to lie in the first place.

Ok, slow down Bishop!

Sure enough, when they got toEgyptthey saw she was beautiful and took her to the KING. The King was pleased with what he saw and sure enough gave Abram her so-called brother gifts, gifts and more gifts. Well what else did they learn on Sunday? When one lies, they don't see the big picture and it don't take long for a lie to come out, so you might as well tell the truth.

Now I had to go from preaching to teaching at the Worship Service. This is why going to Bible Class is so important. The more you learn the more you know and the more you know the more you can say, AMEN and give God the Glory just because you know what the Word of God says about what the preacher is preaching about. Ooowee! Slow down Bishop!

I think I shocked the flock this past Sunday as I broke this major point down. I think I told somebody to catch my Eighty-Eight year-old mother in case she might fall out of her seat. Sometimes the truth will do that. Amen!

Ok, let me go on – Wait a minute!

I'll see each of you this Sunday 11 a.m. sharp to continue part II of my message on lying.

Be on time 11a.m. sharp and don't call the church saying, "I'll see you this Sunday Bishop," and don't show up. WHY? Cause you'll be lying!
