Andy Dalton made it three straight. That is three straight victories over the Cleveland Browns in their 34-27 home opening victory at Paul Brown Stadium in Cincinnati.

Dalton threw for 318 yards and three touchdowns.

Coming into the game, the Cleveland Browns were thin in the defensive back position. Second-year player Joe Haden is out due to substance abuse and ten-year veteran Shelton Brown is dinged up, so Dalton knew he was going to have a better day than at Baltimore.

“ I’ve been saying all along that we’ve got a lot of talented receivers. It’s great to get in the game and great for these guys to make the plays that they did,” said Dalton.

Dalton had lots of talent out there. A.J. Green, Armon Binns, Brandon Tate, Andrew Hawkins and Jermaine Gresham combined for 21 receptions, 286 yards and three touchdowns against the Browns.

Green got it going in the second quarter. Already up 7-3, Dalton hit Green in the end zone with a 10-yard touchdown reception. Mike Nugent’s extra point made it 14-3.

The Browns’ rookies quarterback Brandon Weeden and running back Trent Richardson got hot. Richardson got his first NFL touchdown, a 32-yard run. Dawson kick, 14-10.

Nugent’s 39-yard field goal, the Bengals led 17-10 at the half.

Ben Tate got his first touchdown of the season, a 44-yard reception. Nugent’s extra-point and the Bengals lead 24-10.

Richardson’s second touchdown was interesting. He caught a short pass out in the flat and then he shifted into an extra gear and willed his way into the end zone.

The Bengals would answer with another interesting play. Second-year wide receiver Anthony Hawkins caught a pass over the middle near the 40-yard line, went all the way to the right sideline, then he broke it back to the left for a untouched 50-yard touchdown.

The Browns answered back with a 24-yard touchdown pass to second-year wide receiver Greg Little. Dawson’s kick, the Bengals led 31-24 with 7:04 left.

The Bengals answered that drive with an 11-play, 58- yard 5:02 minute drive with Nugent’s 37-yard field goal. The Bengals lead 34-24. The Browns have no time-outs left.

Week 3 preview

The Bengals take on RGIII

Cincinnati (1-1) at Washington (1-1)

Head coach Marvin Lewis knows that he must solve the Cincinnati Bengals’ defensive backfield problems in a hurray as they are getting ready to face rookie-sensation Robert Griffin III and the Washington Redskins in their home-opener.

The Cleveland Browns’ rookie quarterback Brandon Weeden threw for 322 yards and two touchdowns. The Baltimore Ravens’ quarterback Joe Flacco threw for 299 yards and two touchdowns.

They are going to have to get better because RGIII, despite their 31-28 loss to the Rams, is electrifying.

So far, Griffin III has thrown for 526 yards and three touchdowns. He also ran for two scores.

The Bengals are the fourth worst in the league against the pass. Bengals’ first round pick Dre Kirkpatrick, is still dinged up. Therefore, veterans Leon Hall and Nate Clements (Shaker Heights) have the task of shutting down RGIII’s weapons.

However, the Redskins are also thin against the pass. They are the third worst in the NFL. Dalton will have A.J. Green, Armon Binns, Brandon Tate and Jermaine Gresham. The four combined for 19 receptions, 232 yards and two touchdowns against the Browns.

So, this could turn out to be a shootout.

The Bengals must improve on their offensive line. Second-year quarterback Andy Dalton has been sacked ten times this season. The Browns sacked him six times.  The Bengals’ running attack was ineffective until their final drive. BenJarvus Green-Ellis led with 75 yards on 21 carries.

The Redskins are trying to solve their running game too. Rookie running back Alfred Morris leads the team with 185 yards and two touchdowns.

Kizer’s pick- I picked the Bengals to finish 11-5. The Ravens was one of the five losses. The Redskins is another one. Getting RGIII in his home-opener is a tough task. The Bengals are trying to get their back- for together.  Redskins 35-28.

“We’ve got some guys playing that we didn’t necessarily know would be playing when we got started, but they are and we’re going to have to coach them and make them better. Everybody is going to have to play better. When you’ve got young guys getting in and playing for the first time other guys have to play better around them. Defensively I think that’s what we have to focus on right now,” said Lewis.

They are going to have to get better because RGIII, despite their 31-28 loss to the Rams, is electrifying.
