Browns free agent running back Peyton Hillis will sign with the Kansas City Chiefs.

The deal is said to be a one year deal worth $3 million.

Just after 6 p.m., Hillis posted on his verified Twitter account @ thepeytonhillis : "Appreciate all my fans in Cleveland for the support given to me in my time there. Can't wait to get back on the field and go to work in KC."

Hillis missed several games last season with a hamstring injury and strep throat. He was criticized for skipping out on a charity event for kids on Halloween. He also was under the microscope after using several agents and was called out by his teammates while being missing a game with an injury in San Francisco and then warmed up by throwing passes from midfield to the crossbar alongside third-string quarterback Thad Lewis.

Last year, Hillis beat out four-time Pro Bowler Michael Vick for the cover of Madden NFL 12. More than 1 million votes were cast in the finals and Hillis won with 66 percent of the vote.

Browns wide receiver Josh Cribbs tweeted "Hillis will definitely be missed all we can do now is trust in Holmgren & Heckert that they will build a team that will be successful!!"

Hillis will be re-united with former browns and current Chiefs offensive coordinator Brian Daboll. The big running back rushed for 1,177 yards and 11 touchdowns two seasons ago.
