Defense overall: Turnovers, interceptions, good run defense, good pass defense. Just need to get healthy Browns back to work getting ready for the Eagles.
Hello Browns fans!
This is Greg “Do It” Pruitt, #34. Two-and-0, that sounds good to me. I know it’s just pre-season, but a win is a win. I always played to win, be it scrimmage, preseason, regular season, playoffs or Super Bowl, make winning a habit. Having said that, let’s talk about what we should feel good about in the game played last week. Despite a number of injuries to almost every position both on offense and defense, backup guys stepped up.
Quarterbacks: Brandon Weeden played a better game this week than last. But, he was lucky that two of his passes were dropped by defensive backs. It was fortunate for him. Good teams do have to get breaks once in a while too. He was 12 for 20 for 118 yards. With the exception of some dropped passes, the night may have been even better. Colt McCoy is not going away quietly – four of six for 45 yards with an average of 9.7 per catch – a little better average than Weeden.
Running backs: Trent Richardson is believed to be ahead of schedule on that injured left knee. Expect better production once Richardson is back. The backs overall, ran hard except for the fumble on the opening drive by Montario Hardesty. He seemed to settle down and played a good game after that.
Receivers: Greg Little, who in my opinion is going to be the leader of this group, lead all receivers with four for 45 yards. I still see room for improvement but I do see improvement. Injuries have slowed down the progress in terms of getting veteran players healthy. Having said that, the Browns had 11. Different receivers catch passes.
Tight ends: Like most of the other positions, injuries have slowed the scheme of things. I’m looking for Jordan Cameron to step up. Also Benjamin Watson, Evan Moore and Dan Gronkowski should step it up as well. Expect more from this position.
Kickers: What can I say about Phil Dawson? If we get the same kind of consistency from our skill positions, we can go places. He has actually made the scoring part of the field smaller. Four first downs from the 20 and we are potentially in scoring position.
Defense: Very impressed with the performance by the defense not having six starters. Backups stepped up great play from all positions DT- DBT LB, OLB and MLB.
Offense overall: Nineteen first downs, 12 passing and 7 rushing, for a total of 259 yards. Eight out of 10 third downs. Offensive line played well.
Defense overall: Turnovers, interceptions, good run defense, good pass defense. Just need to get healthy Browns back to work getting ready for the Eagles. Expect continued progress.
Go Browns!
