Well the wait is over, Cleveland Browns star Josh Gordon has suspended one year for violating the NFL's substance-abuse policy. Gordon was drafted by the Browns in the second round of the 2012 NFL Supplemental Draft
Gordon acknowledged that the league upheld his suspension in a statement released Wednesday by the NFL Players' Association.
“I'd like to apologize to my teammates, coaches, the Cleveland Browns organization and our fans," Gordon said in the statement. "I am very disappointed that the NFL and its hearing office didn't exercise better discretion and judgment in my case. I would like to sincerely thank the people who have been incredibly supportive of me during this challenging time, including my family, my agent, my union, my legal team, and the Cleveland Browns staff,” said Gordon.
Gordon’s suspension is effective immediately and he will miss the entire 2014 season. He will have to apply for reinstatement following the season.
Gordon also was arrested in Raleigh, N.C. last month after cops pulled him over for speeding. Gordon had a blood-alcohol level of .09 and the legal limit for the state of North Carolina is .08. It was clear he was going to miss a lot of games and it was rumored the whole season.
Gordon last year caught 87 passes for an NFL-high 1,646 yards and nine touchdowns, earning first-team AP All-Pro honors.
