Cleveland shootings continue

A short time later, they received information that a male had arrived at Southpointe Hospital with a gunshot wound to the neck. Victim was reportedly shot at the park. The victim was transferred to MetroHealth for treatment. Witnesses reported seeing two vehicles in the parking lot of the park firing guns at one another. The vehicles were both occupied by multiple people. The victim is a 21 year old Cleveland resident. No arrests have been made.
The Cleveland Division of Police Third District Detective Bureau is currently investigating a shooting which occurred on July 11, 2014 at approximately 11:30 p.m. in the 2200 block of East 82nd Street. Officers responded to the area for a male shot and upon arrival, located victim conscious and breathing with a gunshot wound to his back. The 17 year old victim (of Cleveland) reported that he was sitting on a porch with a group of people when a black truck drove by and a male fired shots at the group.
The victim was taken to MetroHealth by EMS. No arrests have been made.
The Cleveland Division of Police Third District Detective bureau is currently investigating a shooting which occurred on Saturday, July 12, 2014 at approximately 2:30 a.m. Officers responded to the 1200 block of W. 9th for a large crowd and for people setting off fireworks. Officers were attempting to move the crowd along when shots were heard coming from the parking lot of the Bingham apartments. Officers located the victim, a 19 year old female of Willoughby, with a gunshot wound to the ankle. Victim and witnesses described the shooter and officers apprehended the shooter a short time later.
Arrested was Dennis Coates, 29 year old male of Cleveland. Due to the rowdy crowd, officers were called in from other districts to aid with congested traffic and disbursement of the crowd. The victim was transported to Metro by EMS and the suspect was taken to CPU for booking. Charges have not yet been filed.
The Cleveland Division of Police Fifth District Detective Bureau is currently investigating a shooting which occurred on Saturday, July 12, 2014 at approximately 4 a.m. Officers responded to East 71st and Superior for a male shot. Upon arrival, they located the 46 year old male victim (of Cleveland). The victim reported he was riding his bicycle past Club Sky High and a large crowd stood outside. He heard several shots and bullets grazed his hand and leg. People in the crowd then ran in different directions.
The victim was treated on scene by EMS for minor injuries. No arrests were made.
“We’re focusing heavily on the availability of guns and the impact that gun violence has on our community. A high percentage of crimes committed with guns in Cleveland are committed by people who are prohibited from having guns in the first place,” said Jackson, who recently announced legislative agenda as another tool the city is exploring to use in attempt to reduce the availability of guns to ex-felons and juveniles.
In turn, we are looking to see a greater reduction in violent crime.
