Cleveland Orchestra Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Concert will be held on Sunday, January 19th at 7:00 pm at Severance Hall. The Cleveland Orchestra will be conducted by Chelsea Tipton. The MLK Jr. Celebration Chorus (165-member volunteer chorus) will be lead by William Henry Caldwell. Mayor Frank Jackson will open the event will a special presentation.

Severance Hall will hold its fourteenth annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day Community Open House on Monday, January 20, 2014 from 12:00 noon to 5:00 p.m. The free day of activities and performances celebrates the legacy of Dr. King and will feature performances by local performing arts groups, including the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra and the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Chorus as well as the Julia DeBurgos Group, Kyodi Brass, and El Sistema@Rainey and El Sistema@University Circle orchestras. Family activities throughout the afternoon include the interactive “Play Me, I’m Yours” piano, the “Picture Yourself at Severance Hall” photo activity, and popular DJ Terry Macklin’s Sounds of Entertainment. Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration at the Mt. Nebo Baptist Church located at 12701 Superior Avenue, East Cleveland, Ohio. The program is hosted by the Booker T. Cleveland Realist Association MLK Celebration and 2014 Installation will take place on Sunday, January 19th from 2:30 pm – 6:30 pm at Executive Cateters at Landerhaven, 6111 Landerhaven Drive, Mayfield Hts., Oh. Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration January 20th at the Maltz Museum located at 2929 Richmond Road, Beachwood, Ohio. The Honorable Louis Stokes, U.S. Congressman (retired) will be interviewed by Brent Larkin of the Plain Dealer at 11:30 am. A one act play depicting conversations with Dr. King in prison being visited by Rosa Parks and Ghandi will follow at 2:00 pm. Admission is free. “Would You Be A Drum Major For Peace And Justice” An Ecumenical Celebration Of The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Friday, January 17, 2014 at 7:00 pm at St. Mary Church 300 Union Street, Bedford, OH 44146. The keynote presenter will be Rev. Valentino Lassiter of the East View United Church of Christ with a performance by His Word Praise Dancers, the Shaw High School Marching Band and the Holy Spirit Choir. The 2014 Rev. Dr. Martin L. The 29th annual Ohio Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemorative Celebration will be held at noon Thursday, Jan. 16 at Trinity Episcopal Church, 125 E. Broad St., Columbus. The Ohio Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Commission will present awards to Ohioans for their efforts to advance nonviolent social change. The event is free and open to the public. The Ohio MLK Holiday Commission is housed in the Ohio Department of Administrative Services’ Equal Opportunity Division.

23rd Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration, presented by Cleveland State Office of Inclusion and Multicultural Engagement will take place on Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at 8:30 am at the Wolstein Center located at 2000 Prospect Avenue. The Master of Ceremonies will be Wayne Dawson from Fox8News in the Morning. Speakers include Dr. Julian Earls, former Director of NASA research center, Joe Johnson, motivational speaker and Shakyra Diaz, Ohio ACLU policy director.
