LeBron James goes Hollywood
Cavaliers mega star LeBron James shown here with his four NBA MVP’s is much more than just a great basketball player, he’s also proven to be a great dad, husband, son, social activist and has also extended his talents to Hollywood as he participates in his 14 NBA All Star Game on Feb. 18 in Los Angeles.
Beloved Akron native and the greatest active basketball player in the world, progressive social activist LeBron James is going to Los Angeles this week for the 67th annual NBA All Star Game at Staples Center on Sunday Feb. 18th at 8 p.m. ET on TNT and ESPN Radio.
James, 33-year old, in his 15th season will be participating in his 14th All Star Game, only five players have played in more and the NBA will be introducing a new format allowing players who received the most votes from fans to select their own team.
Scrapped will be the East/West format in an effort to make the game more entertaining or at least interesting from a fans perspective.
James received more votes than anyone with 2,638,294 and Golden State’s Stephen Curry received the second most 2,379, 494 votes.
Team captains James and Curry selected two Los Angeles based charities they'll play for during the NBA All-Star Game.
James chose After-School All-Stars Los Angeles, and Curry selected Brotherhood Crusade.
The NBA will donate $350,000 to the winning team's cause and $150,000 to the losing team's charity.
One of the primary reason why there has been so much intrigue regarding James pending free agency and Los Angeles being the most likely landing spot is because of James off the court interest in the film and motion picture industry.
James and his long time business partner Maverick Carter have been involved in a number of projects, including the recently released ‘More Than A Game’ on Netflix that Chronicles James rise from St. Vincent St. Mary High School and his treasured friendships with four of his high school teammates.
The documentary follows James and four of his talented teammates through the trials and tribulations of high school basketball in Ohio and James' journey to fame.
As Los Angeles hosts its first NBA All-Star game in seven years, James visit is more than just another hoop challenge, its also another opportunity to appeal to his Hollywood appetite.
James and his SpringHill Entertainment partner, Maverick Carter, are producing a new House Party, which will revive the Kid ’n Play–fronted New Line comedy franchise that started in 1990 and was followed by sequels in 1991 and 1994.
“This is definitely not a reboot. It’s an entirely new look for a classic movie,” James told The Hollywood Reporter. “Everyone I grew up with loved House Party. To partner with this creative team to bring a new House Party to a new generation is unbelievable.”
So, to be clear the James to Los Angeles theory is more than just a floating rumor, its real and one that James has not categorically shot down.
The $400 millionaire recently purchased a new mansion in posh Brentwood, was scouring potential high schools for his basketball playing son and has despite the lack of championships, proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that he is the best basketball player in the world.
This All Star game will offer his final pairing with his ex-side kick Kyrie Irving who demanded to be traded prior to the season.
Team LeBron will feature Kevin Durant, Irving, Anthony Davis and Demarcus Cousins in the starting line-up. Team Curry will counter with a starting five of Curry, Giannis Antetokounmpo, DeMar DeRozan, Joel Embiid and James Hardin.
Oh, by the way James will also have the services of Paul George and Russell Westbrook coming off his bench.
Several familiar faces from the Cavs and Quicken Loans Arena organization have also been invited by the NBA to join more than 200 staff and entertainers from across all 30 NBA teams during the 2018 NBA All-Star Weekend. Cavaliers in-arena host Ahmaad Crump, drumline performers The QStix, and Kerry Woloszynek, Cavs director of fan development, are headed to Los Angeles, California, February 16th-18th.
Crump, The Cavs contingent will participate throughout the weekend at marquee events serving alongside game presentation producers and directors, entertainers (including mascots, in-arena emcees, interactive squads), stage managers, DJs and music coordinators, choreographers and more, from across the league.
Crump will participate in his 5th NBA All-Star Weekend. Throughout the three day event, the Cavs hype man will partake in the following events:
