Big games, storms highlight Week 3; Euclid at Medina Week 4 key game

Week 3 of the high school football season one might call it “Judgment Day” as big games, big rivals and big storms embraced northeast Ohio.

St. Ignatius battled four-time defending champions Archbishop Hoban. Euclid took on Canton McKinley. Medina and Wadsworth had a huge war. Cleveland Heights settled and on rivalry and storms cancelled many games the next day.

In Akron, St. Ignatius came from 35-10 down and shocked the Knights with a win, 42-41.

At Canton McKinley, the Euclid Panthers edged Canton McKinley Bulldogs 49-48. In Medina, the Battling Bees of Medina toppled the Grizzlies of Wadsworth 31-28. On Saturday, Cleveland Heights beat rival Shaker Heights 50-8. Beachwood blanked Collinwood 34-0.

On Friday, big storms caused many games to change their approach. Few games kick-off an hour from original start time in hopes to dodge it.

At Willoughby South, the Rebels took on visiting University School Preppers. With 8:55 to go in the second quarter and the Rebels up 35-0, lighting filled the skies and the game had to come to an end, the refs called it. The Preppers and the Rebels agreed to end the game right there and not to return on Saturday.

The game between Medina and Wadsworth continued on Saturday along with more than two dozen of games.

Week 4 Key games:

No. 9 Solon Comets (2-1) will try to get back on the winning side after they suffered a 50-19 loss to Stow. The Comets host No. 8 Brunswick (3-0) in a Greater Cleveland Conference opener. Solon has won their last four meetings.

No. 6 Euclid (3-0) at No. 10 Medina (3-0) this is one of the key 3-0 that will meet this week. The Panthers with a big victory over hosting Canton McKinley. The Bees coming up with a huge win against Wadsworth and this game will have a packed house.

Cuyahoga Heights and No. 15 Kirtland is the rivalry of the week. Both teams are undefeated. Cuyahoga Heights Redskins are 2-0. They had a bye-week in week 3. Kirtland (3-0) has won their last two meetings.

On Saturday, Cincinnati Taft (2-1) at Lutheran East (3-0) – Can the Falcons goes to 4-0? If they beat the Cincinnati Taft, they will.
