CLEVELAND — A student was apprehended Monday (3/31/2025) morning after attempting to bring a loaded firearm into John Marshall High School on West 140th Street, according to the Cleveland Metropolitan School District (CMSD).
School officials said the weapon was discovered during a routine security screening at the entrance. A Safety and Security Officer quickly confiscated the firearm, and the student was taken into custody by Cleveland Police.
In a statement addressed to students, families, and staff, CMSD assured the community that no one was harmed during the incident. “We are grateful for the swift actions of our security personnel and law enforcement partners,” the district said. “The safety and well-being of our students and staff remain our highest priority.”
Authorities have not yet released details about the student’s identity or potential charges. The incident is under investigation as officials work to determine how the student obtained the weapon and what their intentions may have been.
Parents and guardians are urged to discuss school safety with their children, and CMSD is offering counseling resources to any students or staff who may need support following the event.
