Deadly Hit-Skip on Lee Road Leaves Elderly Woman Dead; Driver Arrested

C&P News Wire

CLEVELAND, Ohio — A tragic early-morning hit-skip crash on the city’s East Side has left an elderly woman dead and a young driver facing serious felony charges.

According to Cleveland police, the fatal incident occurred shortly after 1 a.m. Sunday along Lee Road, where a woman believed to be in her 70s was attempting to cross the street.

Investigators say the driver, identified as Aniyah Cheyenne Blair, 22, was traveling at a high rate of speed and failed to stop at a red light when her vehicle struck the victim.

The impact proved fatal. Authorities say the victim died at the scene from her injuries. As of press time, officials had not publicly released her name pending notification of family members.

Police allege that Blair did not stop after the collision. Instead, she continued driving before losing control of her vehicle, veering off the roadway and crashing into a concrete staircase and metal railing a short distance away.

Blair was later located by authorities and taken into custody without incident. She has since been charged with aggravated vehicular homicide. Additional charges could be forthcoming as the investigation continues.

The deadly crash has renewed concerns about speeding and pedestrian safety along Lee Road, a busy corridor that has seen multiple serious accidents in recent years.

Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact Cleveland police as investigators work to piece together the full sequence of events leading up to the fatal crash.

This is a developing story.
