AKRON, Ohio — Authorities in Akron have arrested a man in connection with the death of a 12-year-old boy after an investigation determined foul play was involved.
According to a release from the Akron Police Department, officers responded to a call regarding a cardiac arrest around 2:30 p.m. on Saturday in the 100 block of South Balch Street. When first responders arrived, they found the child unresponsive. The boy was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
During the course of their investigation, police uncovered evidence indicating foul play. As a result, officers arrested 23-year-old Anthony McCants, a man known to the child’s family. McCants has been charged with felony child endangerment.
The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities have not yet released additional details about the circumstances surrounding the child’s death.
McCants is scheduled to be arraigned at 9 a.m. Monday in Akron Municipal Court.
