A 21-year-old Cleveland man was killed Saturday evening in a shooting that ended when his SUV crashed into a house on Akron’s Winton Avenue, according to Akron police and the Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Authorities identified the victim as Nathan Hubbard of Cleveland. Police said Hubbard suffered multiple gunshot wounds while driving a gray Kia Sportage before crashing into a residence in the 1200 block of Winton Avenue on Akron’s west side.
Officers and EMS crews responded to the scene around 6:20 p.m. after reports of a shooting and vehicle crash. When first responders arrived, they found Hubbard inside the SUV with a gunshot wound to the chest. Officers immediately began rendering aid before paramedics transported him to Cleveland Clinic Akron General Medical Center.
Despite emergency efforts, Hubbard later died at the hospital. The Summit County Medical Examiner ruled the case a homicide.
Detectives with the Akron Police Department Major Crimes Unit and Crime Scene Unit spent hours processing the area, collecting evidence, and interviewing witnesses as neighbors looked on in shock.
Police have not announced any arrests or identified a suspect in the deadly shooting.
